Green Fayre
Haverfordwest is going to have its 2nd Green Fayre on Saturday June 12th at the Picton Centre. The event, which is being run by Transition Haverfordwest and the Haverfordwest Going Plastic Bag Free Group aims to raise awareness about how we can respond positively as individuals and as a community to the challenges of the growing environmental costs of our dependence on fossil fuels. We hope the event, which is free to everyone, will be fun as well as informative and there will be something of interest to all the family.

The programme will start at 10am and go on till 5pm and will include creative activities for children, such as recycled jewellery making and juggling, stalls with Fair Trade Goods, information about converting cars to run on vegetable oil, and use of solar energy to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. We will again be using our local currency, the Picton Pound on the day – come and find out more about it.
There will also be stalls with locally grown and made products because when we eat food that is grown and produced within Pembrokeshire the amount of co2 that is put into the atmosphere through transportation it is kept to a minimum, and it also helps to make us more locally resilient and less dependant on global food markets whilst supporting our local producers and economy. The message at the Fayre will clearly be BUY LOCAL, RECYCLE and GROW YOUR OWN. There will be a Seed, Plant and Produce Swap Stall where you can swap plants, garden produce and preserves for something you would like instead, so if you have some extra seeds or plants, bring them along to swap. Delicious food made with local ingredients will be provided by Food in Mind and hot and cold drinks with homemade cakes will be on sale throughout the day.
The Flash Player and a browser with Javascript support are needed..
We are pleased also to welcome performances by several local musical groups including the Wolfscastle School choir at 11am and the West Wales Academy of Dance at 3pm. There will also be a recycled fashion show by Just Nice at 2pm.
Local companies such as Bluestone and Frame have donated very special raffle prizes so make sure you buy a ticket at the door, or if you come to the day either on foot or by bicycle, thereby arriving with a zero carbon footprint, you can get a free raffle ticket, which is a good incentive to get on your bike! There’ll even be a cycle repair workshop if you’re having any problems with your wheels.
So come along to the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest on June 12th for all of this and more. See you there!
